Microchips 8mm (Mini) – Thin chips for cats, ferrets & small dogs
( number of products: 3 )8mm Mini Microchip - Less stress, same identification certainty
Cat and small dog owners often fear microchipping. The reason is simple: fear of pain for their pet. A standard needle can seem terrifyingly thick for a delicate Maltese or a domestic cat. The 8mm Mini Microchip from Bluscan is the answer to these concerns. We reduced the implant size and needle diameter while maintaining the full signal strength required by international standards.
This is our bestseller. Why? Because it represents the ideal compromise. It is significantly less invasive than the Standard version, yet easier to read (larger antenna coil) than the Nano version. Thanks to the thinner cannula, the injection is instantaneous, and the animal often doesn't even notice the moment of application.
Who is the 8mm Mini version best for?
This variant is the "Golden Mean" in companion animal identification. We recommend it especially for:
- Cats - both domestic and outdoor. The thin needle easily penetrates the cat's flexible skin without causing discomfort.
- Small and miniature dog breeds - Yorkie, Maltese, Shih Tzu, Dachshund, Chihuahua (over 1.5 kg).
- Ferrets - due to their specific skin structure.
- Sensitive animals - that do not tolerate vet visits well.

FAQ - Common questions about Mini chips
The difference is minimal. The coil in the 8mm chip is efficient enough for any standard reader to detect without issues. Only in very large animals with thick fat tissue might the range be slightly less than the 12mm version, but for cats and small dogs, this is irrelevant.
Technically yes, but it is not optimal. For large breeds (over 15-20 kg), the better choice is the 12mm Standard, which provides a stronger return signal, facilitating quick reading "on the run" or through thick fur.
Yes. Our chips are "open system" and meet ISO standards. You can register the number in any national or European database (e.g., Europetnet connected databases). The choice is yours.
Looking for a different size?
For the smallest animals (fish, miniatures under 1 kg), choose the 7mm Nano Microchip.
For large dogs, horses, and cattle, we recommend the classic 12mm Standard Microchip.
