Check microchip offerFrequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is a specific "country code" required by law?
No. According to EU regulations, the only requirement is compliance with the ISO 11784/11785 standard. Our chips (with a manufacturer code) are fully legal, honored worldwide, and allow for the issuance of a pet passport just like chips with a country code.
Do the chips have ICAR certification and ISO standards?
Yes. Bluscan transponders are fully compliant with international standards ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 (FDX-B technology). They also have ICAR certification, which guarantees the uniqueness of the number on a global scale.
Are these chips compatible with National Registries?
Yes. Our RFID microchips are fully compliant with technical requirements for government and central registries. They meet all standards foreseen for national administration systems.
Where on the dog's body is the microchip placed?
According to standards in the EU, the microchip is implanted subcutaneously on the left side of the neck. This standardized location allows vet services to quickly locate the implant. For medium and large breeds, we recommend Standard 12mm microchips due to the stronger signal, facilitating reading through thicker skin.
Where to chip a cat and is it worth it?
Similar to a dog - on the left side of the neck. Chipping a cat is highly recommended. Escapes happen, and a chip is the only chance for a lost pet to return home. Due to the delicate skin of cats, we recommend Mini 8mm microchips.
Where to register the microchip number?
This is a key step! The implant itself is useless without registration. Our microchips are universal - you can register them in any database of your choice. The choice of registry belongs to you or your veterinarian.
Does chipping hurt?
The procedure resembles a standard injection and lasts a fraction of a second. Animals usually tolerate it very well. To minimize discomfort, our microchips feature ultra-sharp needles coated with medical silicone.
Is it worth buying more expensive chips from other brands?
There is no technical justification for overpaying. Bluscan microchips are based on proven components and biocompatible glass. We offer top quality, sterility, and reliability at a fair price.
How to choose microchip size? (Standard, Mini, Nano)
The choice depends on the species and size of the animal:
Standard (12mm): Medium/large dogs, livestock. Has a larger antenna coil, giving a stronger signal.
Mini (8mm): Cats, small dogs, ferrets. Thinner needle ensures less pain.
Nano (7mm): Smallest animals (mice, fish). Very thin needle.
What is the difference between FDX-B and HDX?
FDX-B is the standard for pets in Europe (ISO 11784/11785). All Bluscan chips operate in this system. HDX is mainly used in cattle breeding. Our advanced RFID readers support both standards.
Can I chip an animal myself?
Technically, the application is simple. Many experienced breeders do it themselves. However, if you lack practice or are concerned about safety, we always recommend the services of a veterinarian.
Do you offer discounts for regular cooperation?
Yes! We have an attractive loyalty program. We are open to price negotiations for larger orders. Contact us for a B2B offer.
Do you cooperate with veterinarians and breeders?
Yes, they are our key partners. We supply clinics, shelters, and professional breeders. We offer microchip sets in wholesale quantities, which significantly lowers the unit cost.
Can I order a large quantity of chips immediately?
Yes, we maintain high stock levels. We are able to fulfill large wholesale orders with fast shipping.
How to read a microchip number?
A microchip reader is necessary. The device is brought close to the animal's body (neck) and activated. The 15-digit number appears on the display.
How does connecting the reader to a PC work (HID/SPP)?
In HID mode, the reader acts like a keyboard - the scanned number automatically "types" into a text field (e.g., in Excel). SPP mode creates a virtual COM port for advanced communication with software.
Does the microchip have GPS?
No. A microchip is a passive RFID device without a battery. It does not send a GPS signal and does not allow tracking the animal on a map. It serves only for identification.
How long does a microchip last?
The microchip has no battery, so its lifespan is unlimited. Once implanted, the transponder works for the animal's entire life.
What prevents the chip from migrating?
Our microchips are coated with Parylene C (anti-migration coating). It facilitates tissue bonding with the implant, "anchoring" it in the injection site.
Does the chip affect health or MRI scans?
It is completely safe. During MRI scans, it may cause only minor image artifacts in the immediate vicinity, but it is not a contraindication for the examination.
